Budgeteers Gear Up for the Holidays!

It was a great week of giving thanks, visiting family and starting the holiday season right! For Thanksgiving, we only had to travel about 10 miles to my aunt and uncle’s house, where we had dinner in the barn! That’s right, a barn. A nice, spruced up, non-smelly barn. The family gathering is so big we’ve outgrown any usual dining areas, even a town hall we used to rent. But now, the “Funny Farm” Party Barn is up and running! In the past, we’ve had to travel much further, so we were glad to save gas money by meeting the entire clan closer to home. A classy party barn so close to home is certainly a reason to be thankful! A crazy family that always provides quality entertainment = priceless!

Black Friday brought a day of recovery. Brian enjoyed the great outdoors while waiting for deer to wander by. Carson and I contemplated Black Friday frenzy during a quick stop at Kmart just to see if there happened to be any toilet paper bargains. I guess it’s not a big gift item; there were no sales. We left empty handed, but with a few rolls still at home. Thanks to my year-round shopping, almost all of our gifts are bought; only two remain to be purchased – as soon as we figure out what they’ll be! In the evening, we took in the local Holiday Parade, and got lots of free goodies from area businesses, including pizza coupons and hand warmer packets. Some tasty hard candies that were tossed our way will be added to our winter emergency kits to go in vehicles.

Saturday was more visiting with our favorite Chicago area relatives and soon to be snowbird grandparents. Sunday was Christmas decorating; now for the wrapping and we’ll be set!
