Think SUCCESS. Expect SUCCESS.

I have been listening to some positive thinking tapes that my friend, Dona gave me. Some about body image, some about healing and even some about money. I thought I would share a few of the highlights. Many of them have you repeat the lines that they say to you. At first, you sound really corny. Especially if you are at work and your boss comes in the room. It really happened to me. My Pastor boss came in during one of the body improvement ones and he said, 'what did you just say?' Luckily, the person on the CD repeated it so I didn't have to. He said, 'I thought that's what you said.' Whoopsie. My bad.

Debt Free Party

Summit Credit Union just asked us to start talking about the progress we've made in the past 4 months. I told them that I wasn't sure how to talk about it without feeling like I was bragging. I told them that I feel so much joy inside and so much hope for the future now. I have been so blessed to have help from Summit staff and so very grateful. And it's all for free, because they care about their customers. You can feel this joy too.

If someone would have told me a year ago that I was going to have $2000 in savings within a four month time period, I wouldn't have believed them. If they told me that my credit card would be paid off in 3 months I would have told them that they were crazy.

It's Football Season!

We have a house divided. Dylan likes the Eagles and I like the Steelers. My daughter Sarah is in love with the Packers. Her and her Dad live and breathe for the Packer football season.

When I asked Sarah about the Packers, she emailed me a list of the times she has cried about their losses and wins. The first one was when the Packers lost to the Giants on a field goal at the end of the game. No Super Bowl.

The Holidays...Sweet Memories

I think Fall is my favorite season. It used to be Winter, but then I wised up. I had an old car that wouldn't start in the Winter and I had to jump it all of the time. That got really old. Fall means crispy cold nights, snuggling under warm quilts, crunchy leaves that spin around in the street. Beautiful colors everywhere. And it means that all of the fun holidays are starting.

We usually make an annual trip to Ski Hi to get apples. They are probably cheaper to buy at Woodman's, and probably taste the same, but the drive to Baraboo is worth the gas you waste. The bluffs just burst with color if you hit the right week.

A little bit of this and that.

My assignment from my financial person, Mary Johnson, last month was to refigure this year’s budget to include 5% for retirement.  Where was I going to find that money? I am down to bare bones already.

Well, hopefully for this month I have found a little.

She also challenged me to have a garage sale or sell things on Craigslist. That sounded like a great idea, but I have just recently moved from a small apartment and since I couldn’t store much there and because I didn’t want to pay a lot of money to my movers, I got rid a lot of stuff before I moved.

Everyday Heroes

I went into the Summit Credit Union downtown last week and Jennifer’s cardboard cutout was standing there looking cool. I went up to the teller and told her that I needed to make a quick deposit so that I could win Project Money. It was $20 for savings and I don’t think that will take me over the top, but who knows.

The teller said, hey, your sister-in-law stopped in the other day and said you were one of the lucky people chosen. That touched my heart. That was so nice of her to mention me. You see, Pam, my sister-in-law is one of my everyday heroes.

Time to Dust Off My Dreams

I knew when I started this challenge of getting out of debt, that I had to focus, be serious, grow up and start future thinking. I had to dust off my dreams, if I had some and start digging in with all I had.

I started by taking the Dave Ramsey course, Financial Peace University, offered by Door Creek Church on the east side of Madison. New classes are starting in Sept. and at a lot of churches in Dane Co. We all gathered in the sanctuary, there were about 50-75 people in the class. A lot of married couples, single mom’s and dad’s too.

Victoire

Since I wrote about my love of quilting last week, I wanted to talk about my mother-in-law Victoire. She was from Belgium. She came to America to marry my father-in-law Clarence. Clarence was in the merchant marines and he met her there in Belgium and asked her to marry him and come to America as soon as she could.

She almost didn't make it over here. When she and Clarence were dating, Clarence asked her to the movies and she wanted to go to one and he wanted to go to a different one, they decided to go to his, luckily, because the other one was bombed by the German's. They would have both died. She has a lot of stories about the war. My daughter recorded her stories, thank goodness before she died a couple of years ago.

Confessions of a Fabri-holic

So, I didn’t always understand when people were moved by art. I have heard of people just crying when they looked at a picture or a sculpture. It sounded kind of strange to me until I went to the quilt museum in Paducah, Kentucky. It was love at first sight. I must have stood there for fifteen minutes without moving a muscle, drinking in all of the colors and hand stitching. It felt as though I became one with the quilt.

Dylan

I thought I would start out my blog writing about my son. You see he left today (Sunday) at 3:00 this afternoon for Bethel Horizons camp. He will be there until Friday at noon with a bus full of kids.

He couldn't take his cell phone. So no contact with Mom or Dad. I asked him if it would be okay if I wrote him a letter. He didn't know if that would be too freaky. I said that I was just going to write to him about news from home. After a while, he thought that it would be okay, if I wanted to.

I went to Girl Scout camp for two weeks in Antigo WI. It stormed every dang night. My friend and tent roommate, Diane & I zipped our sleeping bags together out of pure fear for our lives.
