Winners!

They will announce the winner for Project Money in February, but I think all of us have won already. We have learned how to change our behavior. As stubborn as I was and in complete denial of my debt, I sure needed the seven months to get my head into the game and get into a routine with my money. Shop smart, look for bargains and really wait until I needed something to purchase it.

I also needed to feel what it felt like to have money build up in my savings account. I needed to see that I could do it. I wanted to see how the other side lived being out of debt. Well, at least the bad kind of debt. I can't believe that I did it and I never want to go back to my old habits.

During Project Money, anytime that I met with any of my friends, I would always ask them questions about their success with money and how they made accomplishments with it. A couple of weeks ago, I invited my beautiful and loving twin friends from high school over to see my condo and we started talking about Project Money and they were kind enough and open enough to share some of their ideas.

They feel like money is a game and they always want to win. They said that if they got the best price for something and it was the best quality, they felt like they won the prize. They said that they took their time picking out a car one year. They researched all of the brands and looked at consumer reports and wanted to get the best value for their big purchase. They were meticulous in finding the safest car and they drove their Chevy Nova into the ground until they found the one they wanted. And when they bought it, they sold their Chevy for cash, for parts even though it had over 250000 miles on it. Cool!

They took their time buying a house too. They said that they didn't want to take on a debt that they couldn't handle. They made a goal to pay it off before they were 50 and accomplished it! They said that they read magazines and articles on saving money, retirement plans, CD's, anything that can keep them on the best financial road.

The twins said that their dad and mom talked about finances when they were young. Their dad told them to put money into a pension plan and they did, since they were 21 years old! Their dad said don't depend on social security, it might not be there when they retired.

My favorite thing they said was that they don't like STUFF enough to go into debt for it. They look for the affordable. They are two smart and wealthy girls and I love them! They are always cheering me on with Project Money.

I can't believe what support and knowledge that I have had during Project Money. Summit Credit Union staff, Mary Johnson, and all of the people that Mary brought to our meetings were amazing.

Thank you to Amy, Tania and Cheryl , you guys were so helpful. Thank You! JRP and WKOW-TV and Greg Jeschke, you made a nervous girl, not so nervous. You were so kind. It was kind of fun to have people stop us in church and in our work and school and say that they saw us on TV the other day. Or they saw our billboard or cardboard cutouts and sent us a phone picture. Hilarious!

I would like to thank my family and friends for their love and support. For giving me ideas for the blogs and for letting me film you on my flip camera. You guys are the greatest!

Most of all I want you to know that it can work for you too! If I can do it, anyone can.  Just go to Summit Credit Union, bring your bills and pay stubs. They will give you a budget and a pack of dreams to dream. Use cash for your food every month and the day your paycheck comes, have a plan for every penny. Work really hard and stick to it and your dreams can come true. Just look at me. I AM A WINNER!!!!

Love Always, Penny
