Tick Tock, Tick Tock…
Yep, we are coming down to the last hurrah. We, The BrownHouse, have been working together as a team. Well, at least we have made the best effort to. We have had our Step-Family Squabbles and all out BrownHouse Brawls, but it seems like MONEY is no longer the source of tension in our home. As we are coming to the end of the competition it is really reassuring that we are not at the end of having good financial skills and planning.
The clock is still ticking for Project Money, but we are noticing some changes in our financial clocks, too.
As a team, we are looking into the cost of college, or what it will be in 2016!! The kids are a little surprised at how much one year of college costs.
As a team we are planning for this summer and NEXT School years’ sports and activity fees.
As a team we are planning our summer vacation, and setting money aside every month.
As a team we really have learned how to think ahead from everything from butter and eggs to next summer’s Fun Money. We don’t want to be caught off guard. It’s very discouraging to be caught without the finances to pay for some event for the kids or a bill we may have forgotten.
As a team we are working pretty hard… most of the time. Yeah, we have our weak moments, but we know it’s not going to put us WAY BACK AT THE BEGINNING, when we had ZERO savings or had to stop by Pay Day to make it through to the end of the week.
Team Work Works.
Time keeps right on ticking…
The kids are helping me understand teams a bit better. I had them give me a couple of their thoughts about “The best kind of team”. They both agreed that the players Work Together—Talk to Each Other – and They Don’t Fight. Those seemed like good answers to me, but then we talked about WINNING TEAMS. Would there be a difference between the two? The Best Team to Play On and the Winning team? The answers weren’t the same.
The players on the WINNING Team still Work Together—and Talk to Each Other, but they also WORK HARD. That seems like the key for a winning team. Hard Work.
As you can see from our Facebook pages and the SummitCreditUnion.com website, all of the teams have been working very hard. We are all ending up as winning teams.
Well, time is still ticking and I have to get to bed!!
One last thought. We are so glad that we haven’t waited any longer to learn these lessons. One more year of this financial chaos and I think it may have been devastating to our family. So don’t let any more time go by if you are deciding about how to get help with your finances. There are all kinds of assistance offered out there to help you make changes in your spending, saving and bill paying habits. Just Do It. We did, and boy are we glad.
