The Milk Man Cometh…

It was an amazing thing to see on Highway K. I really thought it was the end of the little kitty’s life. I have seen quite a few dead animals on the road while delivering the State Journal between 3:30 and 5 in the morning. Some you just drive by and say “ewww” (skunks, raccoons), and others you say “I wonder if the guy who hit that is OK” (deer and a … a… I’m not sure what it was, but it was BIG). But then there are the ones that break your heart. That was Sam. (see… I gave him a name. That means he had a place in my heart.)

He was RIGHT BETWEEN THE YELLOW LINES, in the center of the road. It is 4:30 when traffic really starts moving on that highway. I had to deliver to the next house about 50 feet away and there was traffic coming from BOTH WAYS!!! I knew that was the end of his life. I didn’t want to see this, but this was also the house I had to turn around at and head back the other way. UGH. I pulled way over and waited. The cars passed each other and Sam was right between them. I turned around. HE MADE IT!!! HE MADE IT!! I bet he was scared to death, but nothing touched him. I got my car turned around only to see ONE OF THOSE BIG MILK SEMI’S COMING DOWN THE ROAD!! LOOK OUT SAM! But guess what? That guy slowed down and let tiny little Sam cross the highway. Imagine that! A big ol’ Semi letting this tiny, not very smart, cat cross the highway to safety. I laughed the rest of the paper route thinking about that crazy cat… (and that truck driver!)

Have you ever felt like you’re stuck in between two yellow lines when you are dealing with your finances and THEN YOU REALIZE YOU HAVE TRAFFIC COMING FROM BOTH WAYS!!!??? There is no doubt about it in your mind… those bills are going to hit you at the same time. It will all be over. You’re going to be dead in the road. I can’t tell you how many times we have felt like that. We would get to the end of the month (OR WEEK) and still end up with water bill traffic or mortgage traffic or school and sports fee traffic hitting us all at the same time. Mike has taught us different ways of saving money, and we have learned the ways we have to be careful of the way we spend and the way we pay off our debts. It’s a bit like having the Milk Man waiting for us to cross the road to safety. Or in our case crossing to the end of the month with no unpaid bills, with money left in our checking account and more money saved each month.

Financial Coaches are very aware of how to assist people who need their help.

So are Milk Men… just ask Sam, the cat on Highway K.
