The Alarm is Going Off

I (Juli) get alarmed a lot. Not the way you may think. It’s just a beep and it’s to remind me of certain times of the day, like lunch and dinner. And if I give myself insulin, an alarm reminds me to check my sugar 2 hours later. I wear an insulin pump. It’s annoying sometimes it’s a life saver other times. If I happen to be standing next to someone and I beep, they look at me a bit funny. (Especially if it happens to be in the middle of a job interview.) HOWEVER… We (my Dr. and I) have determined that this is the best way for me to keep up with taking care of things… otherwise I could go through a whole day without thinking about the fact that my body needs insulin. Yep, that is the extent of my attention span when it comes to everyday life things.

It’s the same with banking too. As we set up all of these online Auto-Pay systems with our bills and some of our loans there is an alarm that goes off a week before it is going to be withdrawn from our checking account. It’s working. We (Larry and I) have determined that this is the best way for us to keep up with taking care of paying bills on time and to keep paying reasonable amounts on the loans we have. I wonder if everyone would do good with a system like this or if it’s only helpful for memory impaired people like me.  It sure has made things a lot smoother in this household. No rushing to the computer at 5 minutes to 5:00 to get that credit card bill paid before the end of the day. If it’s on Auto Pay it’s already been paid on the actual due date and I didn’t have to touch a keyboard.

The other change in our house is getting our number of outgoing payments to decrease. We mentioned a few weeks ago that we decided to get rid of DirecTV, and we decided to not have our Sunday newspapers (that we deliver) dropped at our house. Another drop in our payments is with Hot Lunch at school. Larry and Lexie only eat Hot Lunch one time a week. The other days are cold lunch days and we try to be creative with what we have for lunch. (I don’t think we do very well—have any hints?) Without paying so much for Hot Lunch we only have to make 1 payment a month instead of 1 payment a week.

There are just a few alarms going off in the Brown House throughout the month.

Don’t worry. We’re not alarmed by it.
