I'll Miss You!!

Or will I? It was always mine. I’d had it since I was born. It’s just always been a part of my life. But I’ve never actually thought about it, and NEVER seen it!

And now they said it was leading my body into total chaos. I could see their point. There was a LOT of pain. It was a problem with everyday living. It was taking me and my lifestyle, and my energy, and my safety away from the rest of my body.

THEY TOOK IT FROM ME… my appendix. Dr. V said it was best to do the surgery right away (IN 20 MINUTES!) We just had to take care of a little paperwork.

I’ll miss you, appendix. Maybe.

Yes, it’s true. Everyone is born with an appendix. Most have it all of their lives and never have trouble with it. But when you DO have trouble, it’s best to take care of that tiny little organ right away. Dr. V says so. And now, 5 days after surgery, I know he was right!

Have you ever considered your appendix as a major organ in your body? I doubt it. It does have some use, but if it’s causing trouble, it’s OK to get rid of it. You can live without it just fine.

Our coach, Mike is laying out some choices for us when it comes to savings. Take it away before we even see it in our checking account. If we see money in our checking account, it can cause chaos! We pay bills, yes. But we basically spend the rest until it’s gone.

Our paychecks will be a tiny bit less. There will be less in our checking account on some weeks, and it will be a tight squeeze on other weeks, but if it has been taking life and energy and safety away from our savings every week… it will be a good thing to get rid of that tiny piece of our earnings. It’s pay that we have always had, but just taken for granted.

If we don’t actually “see” that money in our checking account, we probably won’t miss it that much. A little pain those first few paychecks, but I bet in time we won’t even miss it. (Just like the appendix!)

In the long run it means we won’t leave Larry Jr. and Lexie totally “un-safe” when it comes to college funds and it won’t take the life and energy out of our retirement.

Mike says we should do it right away. The longer we wait the longer we stay unhealthy in the savings we have set up for the long-term. We just have to ask for a little paperwork at work and ask questions about how our 401k’s are set up. We can make decisions then and get things rolling right away.

Hmmm… One of the great lessons learned this past week with our coach. Thanks Mike! 

If you have the ability and resources to increase your 401k and you have an employer who will match it is a GREAT way to start saving more. I doubt you’ll miss it that much.

Oh… Dr. V? Thanks for the other lesson…

Good-bye appendix. Just like those few dollars put into our retirement savings…you won’t be missed that much!
