This past week I wanted to revolt against Project Money. We’ve beaten our budget, pinched our pennies, and sold what’s worth selling. Now how about a little excitement? It only makes sense to ignore these feelings and stay home and shred credit cards. Instead of dolling out dollars, I took a middle school volleyball coaching position. Practice is right after school, and then I pick up the kids, head home and feed the little buggers. This has helped curb those feelings and avoid any free time where I might wander into an auto parts store or the hardware store to buy something cool that I might need.
I’m not sure if it’s a positive result, but every time I walk through the barn or into my shop, the items I own all appear to have price tags on them. I cannot help myself from evaluating the need of tools, stereo equipment, doors, or cars and comparing these items to possible debt solutions. I am starting to feel guilty for owning something I don’t use on a regular basis. I look around and wonder, “Do I need all this stuff?” Others do not have as much as we do, does that make me selfish? Either way, I hope to find a happy balance between the stuff we need and the stuff that is more of a luxury. I’ll soldier on with Project Money the continued goals my wife and I have set with our faithful Captain Scott at Summit supporting our decisions.
Keeping yourself busy is a GREAT way to avoid unnecessary shopping!

Paul and Heike,
You both are doing a fantastic job. We did set some aggressive goals and I'm sure it's hard to keep the momentum going. Celebrate your successes! Think of how all those payments to debt will eventually end and turn into the ability to save!

I really appreciated this blog ... I know that feeling of wanting to revolt :D but the numbers your family has put up so far is very impressive and these successes can motivate your future spending. One item to think about is how to maintain the balance you've established after Project Money.
