Another New Job?

It’s happened again…another new job.  After spending 3 months driving back and forth to Milwaukee, I had reached a point that was mentally and physically exhausting.  Instead of falling victim to that I started the job search yet once again.

I’ve never in my life had three jobs in 4 months, but when you realize something isn’t going to work for the long-haul, you re-evaluate and make the appropriate moves.  I, however, was very lucky.  A woman I knew through a professional organization had recommended me for a position with a local association and I got the job.  It’s amazing what networking can do you for you both professionally and personally.

Now, I’m not only working closer to home….71 miles closer to home, but I’m able to take the city bus for $55/month and my car sits most of the week.  That means I’m no longer putting 100 – 150 miles a day on it, but there’s less wear and tear, I’m not putting ANY gas into my car and I can have a peaceful ride to/from work without the hassle of dealing with traffic.  I realized that this week alone, I still have over a ½ tank of gas and I filled up over a week ago.  Beats filling up every 2 days.

Although I took a pay cut to come home, the savings in commuting and having free benefits (Yes, free benefits), makes up for the loss in pay.  Taking the pay cut was hard, but after running the numbers and realizing that 3.5 – 4 hours a day in a car was really stressful, it all made sense and the choice became easy.

It’s been a week and I love being an Event Planner!

Congrats, Amy! Commuting is NO FUN - and you'll make up for any lost income in found life/work/play balance. Enjoy!
